Sculpt your very own moon gazing or ‘in motion’ hare!
 

No experience needed as Jo will demonstrate and guide you through every step.  All materials, tools and apron are provided.  You will have a turntable to allow effortless moving of your hare as you build it up.

Jo will make contact with you a couple of weeks prior to the workshop asking what 'pose' you would like to make - eg, moongazing, looking back, running or leaping (nb: there is a £10 surcharge payable on the day for making the running and long leaping hare to cover the extra materials).  If available, you can also choose to upgrade your hare to a Medium or Large hare. Ironically easier to do than the smaller ones (less fiddly), the larger sizes are particularly impressive if you are going to display your hare in the garden or on the patio.

 
We start with a steel stand and aluminium wire armature that has been pre-made for you (although later in the day we will make an armature together so you can understand the technique).  You can move features (ears, head, legs) of the wire armature to further personalised ‘pose’, making every sculpture completely unique.  At this stage you can place a message or memento (such as a locket of hair) into the heart area - particularly poignant for the moon gazing hares.  See the Q&A page for more information. 

Layers of aluminium foil are then squeezed onto the armature so you can make your hare as skinny or chubby as you wish!  Ears can be made longer and positioned in all sorts of poses.  Layers of plaster are then added, with a final coat of specialist paint and ‘kiss’ of gilding cream to bring your sculpture to life (the magic moment!).  Your finished hare is water resistant so can moon-gaze or leap about your garden.  You leave with a little pot of touch-up paint and some sticky back baize in case you wish to display your sculpture indoors.

There will be plenty of tea, coffee, water and snacks available throughout the day.  Please bring your own packed lunch.

The modern studio is set in our garden within beautiful quiet countryside on the Norfolk / Suffolk border, where you can relax and enjoy this creative and unique experience.   It has air conditioning for extremes of weather during the winter and summer, plus large sliding doors for the more temperate days.

Our workshops are friendly, fun and relaxing.  They are suitable for total beginners and from the age of 14 (children under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult). 

Workshop numbers are limited to ensure plenty of workspace and a relaxed atmosphere.
